The Craigieburn Haute Route is our signature trip.
Chamonix has the famous Haute Route tour with telepheriques, gondolas and lodges. Broken River has a funicular railway designed by an engineer club member and rope tows that access the top of the resorts. Tour with a professional ski guide from north to south or south to north. You’ll see the entire range and link basins between ski areas – with riding on all aspects.

Itinerary of the Craigieburn Haute Route:
Day 1: Craigieburn Valley ski area, getting used to conditions, familiarising with equipment, avalanche rescue and rope tows. We then travel across to Broken River via Allan’s Basin which links the two ski areas. Stay at Broken River ski lodges.
Day 2: Use Broken River lifts to begin the tour to Cheeseman ski field. Depending on conditions it is possible to ski west face corn or southeast facing powder from Mt Wall. We stay at Cheeseman’s high Snowline lodge on evening number 2.
Day 3: Ride Cheeseman lifts back to the ridge and ski some fabulous bowls depending on conditions. Ride/ski a Walking Access easement through the Ryton to the Mt Olympus road. Night three is spent at Mt Olympus.
Day 4: Local tour within Mt Olympus, ski Mt Olympus ski field or lounge in NZ’s highest hot tub.
Notes
- Price (2025): 4 days: $2895/person (maximum of 4)
- Customized tour also available. Cost includes: transfers, lift access, guides, accommodation, and all food.
- Max size of group is 4.
- This trip is for people who have ski toured for at least 5 days previously. If you are a strong skier or boarder who has not yet toured we recommend a shakedown tour to learn the ropes (eg our Introduction to Touring day).
- You also need recent experience riding rope tows with a day pack.
